Building Types & Sizes

Nonresidential buildings

June 1, 2012:
Buildings 75,000 sf and greater

June 1, 2013:
Buildings 30,000 sf and greater

June 1, 2014:
Buildings 10,000 sf and greater

Penalties

Non-compliance with ECAD is a Class C misdemeanor with fines from $500 to $2000.

Exemptions

Residential Homes:

As a home seller, you may be exempt from ECAD disclosure requirements if you meet one or more of the following conditions:

Your home is outside of the Austin City limits.

Your property does not receive electric service from Austin Energy.

Your home is less than 10 years old at the time of sale.

You have made an energy efficiency improvement to your home within the last 10 years. (See the program ordinance to see a listing of eligible improvements.)

You have a manufactured home built on a permanent chassis and designed for use without a permanent foundation.

Certain home ownership changes and title transfers are also eligible for exemption. (See the program ordinance to see a listing of conditions.)


MultiFamily Properties:

You can earn an Energy Audit Exemption Certificate if your property has received an Austin Energy rebate for the following improvements within the past 10 years:
      Comprehensive duct remediation work
      Air conditioning equipment replaced for all units


Manufacturing Buildings:

Any building classified as a manufacturing building is exemept from this ordinance.
